Take what you have learned and apply it!

Mar-Apr 2013 - Vol.2 No. 2 - Page #1

Whether you are managing a hospital laboratory or a regional or national reference laboratory, chances are you face many of the same operational challenges as your colleagues. Because these challenges involve staff turnover, increases in testing volume and type, technology failures, or other operational concerns, it is the primary goal of MedicalLab Management to help you navigate these waters and find solutions to common, everyday problems.

Likewise, laboratory trade shows—such as CLMA’s KnowledgeLab—are designed to provide numerous opportunities to expand your clinical knowledge base and skill set, meet with automation and technology supplier representatives, network with colleagues, and seek other outlets for operational improvement. However, while attending a laboratory trade show can be a nice opportunity to meet with friends and tour the host city, the overarching goal is to incorporate the lessons learned from educational sessions and seek ways to integrate new technology and automation that will streamline workflow and improve working conditions for all laboratory staff.

If you are planning to present project findings or other research at trade shows this year, have presented in the past, or are interested in showcasing some aspect of laboratory improvement, please let us know! Learning from others’ experiences is always a valuable tool in ensuring the viability of your own laboratory operations and expanding the role of the lab throughout health care facilities is a great way to secure funding and foster a sense of ownership for staff. It is our hope that you will not only increase your working knowledge in the lab, but also share those experiences with others and contribute to the overall growth of clinical laboratory functions. Representatives from MLM will be at Booth 212 at the CLMA KnowledgeLab in Orlando. We hope you will stop by and share your experiences with us.

With best regards,

David McCormick
