Middleware Systems

State of Laboratory Technology 2016 - Vol.5 No. 9 - Page #48

As clinical laboratory diagnostic systems have grown in capability and sophistication, so too has the need for proper conduits between such devices, related diagnostic equipment, and governing information and test management systems. The proliferation of clinical middleware—software that serves as a bridge between information or operating systems and clinical instruments—is warranted due to the broad range of tools it can provide to clinical laboratory directors. Proper utilization of middleware can result in process transparency, aid in process error identifications, and assist in the optimization of staff resources; all actions vital to a Lean laboratory operation.
