Refrigerators & Freezers

December 2016 - Vol.5 No. 10 - Page #17

Several clinical laboratory departments depend on strict and reliable temperature control, not the least of which are the blood bank and transfusion services. In order to ensure the viability of patient specimens, reagents, and other diagnostic-dependent products, many facilities are replacing consumer-grade refrigerators and freezers with advanced, medical-grade units.

While 58% of facilities use a mix of consumer– and medical-grade refrigerators and freezers, an encouraging 34% of facilities utilize medical-grade units exclusively. With 40% of all facilities planning new purchases, there is a wide market to choose from, and given the strong user satisfaction with these purpose-designed units, facilities should continue to move toward exclusive use of medical-grade refrigeration.
