Point-of-care testing technology is widely used in clinical settings of all sizes and sophistications, with 96% of facilities incorporating some form of POC testing. Serving a supplementary role, POCT technology provides patient-centered, actionable data that can improve the speed and efficiency of patient care, and help limit unnecessary treatments and/or other undue procedures.
The widespread utilization of point-of-care testing continues this year, with 93% of all facilities taking advantage of POCT. At most facilities (68%), POCT represents less than 10% of their test volume.
Satisfaction ratings for point-of-care vendors are solidly positive, with 78% of laboratory directors ascribing top marks to their vendors.
The strong point-of-care marketplace offers a variety of options and laboratorians are increasingly likely to diversify and source their POC tests from multiple vendors. The leading vendors this year are Abbott, Roche, HemoCue, Nova Biomedical, and Siemens Healthineers.
