The CUBE 30 Touch from Streck is an automated instrument for high-volume erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) testing directly from EDTA tubes without consuming the patient sample. CUBE 30 Touch is compatible with standard 13 x 75 mm K2 and K3 EDTA tubes (1.5 mL to 4.0 mL sample volume). The internal mixing function prepares up to 30 samples per batch with results available in 20 minutes. The system automatically prints and transmits results to the LIS, eliminating the need to manually record daily runs. The quality control feature generates statistical reports with the following features: Levey-Jennings charts; standard deviation; CV%; and mean, highest, and lowest results. CUBE 30 Touch features 94% correlation to Modified Westergren Method, with an internal bar code scanner that helps ensure positive patient ID. The archive files store 5,000 patient results and 5,000 QC results per level (normal and abnormal).


The iSED from Alcor Scientific is a fully automated ESR analyzer that is capable of analyzing samples in 20 seconds, using just 100 microliters of blood directly from the primary EDTA collection tube. The 20-position iSED has a continuous, random access feed. The analyzer is also compatible with BD Microtainer MAP Microtubes without additional sample manipulation, making it ideal for pediatric testing and avoiding QNS issues. The iSED has a high throughput of up to 180 samples per hour, and no batching, pipetting, sample splitting, or duplicate primary tubes are necessary. Featuring onboard mixing, scanning, and printing while maintaining a footprint of 7.875” x 13” x 12.25” (H x W x D) and only weighing 11 pounds, the analyzer stores up to 500 patient samples and 30 days of QC for quick retrieval. Yudon Plot graphs allow for quick analysis of daily quality control. On-board mixing provides a more consistent mix, increasing reliability of results, and labs can save time with the built-in bar code scanner. The Excyte 20’s methodology is based on the Westergren method, meeting established CLSI and ICSH guidelines.


The Starrsed product line from RR Mechatronics utilizes fully automated Westergren methodology. Emphasizing clinical accuracy and repeatability, the Starrsed ST is a tube-based analyzer with a small footprint, producing 36 sample results an hour. It includes a built-in bar code reader that identifies each sample, reporting directly to the LIS, and a fully integrated diluent system, diluting blood at a 4:1 ratio as described by the Westergren methodology. The instrument includes full random access capability and analyzes up to 12 samples per hour with results available in 20 minutes. MINI-CUBE automatically prints and transmits results to the LIS, eliminating the need to manually record daily runs. The Excyte Mini from ELITechGroup performs a complete sedimentation rate test in as few as 15 minutes. Available in a compact size for a busy hospital lab, its footprint is 6” x 8” x 4” (H x W x D), and it weighs two pounds. Holding up to 10 samples, the system is able to perform up to 40 sed rate tests per hour.
