Critical to preanalytical quality, pure water is necessary for a number of laboratory applications, including buffers and blanks, calibrators and controls, reaction mixtures, and reagent reconstitution. Over a quarter of laboratories are planning to invest in a sophisticated, automated water purification system.

Overall, 27% of laboratory directors are planning to purchase a new water purification system in the near future. Almost three-quarters of these purchases (74%) will be made by those looking to upgrade their current water purification system, and 26% will be those purchasing a system for the first time.

Over a quarter of facilities planning to acquire new systems have immediate plans to do so.

MilliporeSigma is the commanding favorite here; nonetheless, numerous vendors are being considered, with strong emphasis on Evoqua Water Technologies, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Elga LabWater, and Culligan.
