Given the need for cellular morphology in clinical laboratories, hematology analyzer technology enjoys near universal application and its capabilities are expanding. In addition to cell counting and differential leukocyte analysis, reticulocyte count analysis can yield hemoglobin content, hypochromic cells, and microcytic cell or microcytic anemia factor. With these augmented capabilities, the utilization of this technology is projected to continue apace.


This marketplace will continue to be busy, as facilities of all sizes are planning new acquisitions.


Most new acquisitions (73%) are projected to occur over the next 4 years.


Sysmex America maintains a comfortable lead among systems in use, with Beckman Coulter showing strongly as well.


Sysmex has a strong hold on vendors under consideration, although Beckman Coulter is widely considered as well, along with Abbott, Siemens, CellaVision, and Roche, among others.
