Urinalysis Analyzers

November 2020 - Vol. 9 No. 10 - Page #38

One of the essential diagnostic screening tests performed in clinical laboratories, automated urine chemistry and microscopy is supported by sophisticated analyzers and related diagnostic systems. Modern technologies and informatics have all but eliminated many manual aspects of urinalysis, which now work in concert with advanced methodologies, such as flow cytometry in automated microscopy and urine dilution for improved interpretations. Additional methods, such as MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry for rapid pathogen identification, are now part of the urinalysis analyzer’s growing arsenal.

As a heavily used technology in clinical laboratories of all sizes, satisfaction with urinalysis analyzers is strong. With just shy of a quarter of facilities (23%) looking to acquire new analyzers, laboratories will continue to take advantage of increasingly rapid and diverse capabilities.

Almost 9 out of 10 of all facilities utilize urinalysis analyzers, indicative of their wide application in the clinical setting.

Widely utilized, urinalysis analyzers enjoy solid ratings as 96% of users are satisfied with their respective analyzers.

Siemens Healthineers and Beckman Coulter lead among vendor systems in use. This continues to be a lively market, with Sysmex recently announcing new urinalysis analyzer offerings.
