Centrifuges

November 2020 - Vol. 9 No. 10 - Page #39

Though sometimes overlooked as the high-performance instruments that they are, clinical centrifuges are growing in sophistication and capability to meet the needs of today’s laboratories. Accurate speed and timing of sample centrifugation is essential for many downstream testing functions to work properly, and these times and speeds vary from application to application. Thus, a robust centrifuge or network of centrifuges is necessary to accommodate all clinical laboratory needs in a consistent manner while shouldering a busy workload. Fortunately, there is a broad vendor market enabling laboratories to find their own best solution.

Just shy of half of all facilities have plans to acquire new centrifuges in the near term.

Centrifuges enjoy healthy ratings with 88% of users indicating they are more than satisfied with their vendor.

Thermo Fisher leads his marketplace, although, several vendors are widely utilized, including Helmer, Hettich, Beckman Coulter, and Drucker, among others.
