Middleware

November 2020 - Vol. 9 No. 10 - Page #50

Given the myriad technologies now networked into information systems, the criticality of transparent and dynamic middleware systems has only grown in recent years.

Armed with instrument use data coupled with QA and QC results, the laboratory director can zero in on process gaps and identify missing job aids that would prove useful at the bench. Middleware data also can be used to monitor workflow, observe and analyze trends and patterns, and better predict potential problems before they arise.

An impressive 98% of laboratory directors indicate they are satisfied with their middleware systems.

The utilization of middleware is common in larger facilities, yet the use of such systems has seen significant growth in small hospitals, with 43% now using middleware, up from 32% last year.

Middleware from Data Innovations is broadly used, with Sysmex America, Beckman Coulter, Abbott, Siemens Healthineers, and Roche Diagnostics also enjoying broad use.
