Trends in Centrifuge Purchasing

January 2021 - Vol.10 No. 1 - Page #6

Clinical centrifuges continue to grow in sophistication and capability to meet the needs of today’s laboratories. Accurate speed and timing of sample centrifugation is essential for many downstream testing functions to work properly, and these times and speeds vary from application to application. Thus, a robust centrifuge or network of centrifuges is necessary to accommodate all clinical laboratory needs in a consistent manner while shouldering a busy workload. Fortunately, there is a broad vendor market enabling laboratories to find their own best solution.

The centrifuge marketplace is projected to remain quite robust with 45% of hospital labs planning to purchase new centrifuges. Most notably, over three-quarters (78%) of these new acquisitions will occur within the next 3 years.

Thermo Fisher, leads this marketplace, followed by Helmer, Hettich, Beckman Coulter, and Drucker, among others.
