Cloud-Based Workflow Software

Designed to address data privacy, security issues, and compliance concerns, the Caresphere WS from Sysmex helps increase the efficiency of laboratory workflow. A HITRUST CSF-certified and intuitive, cloud-based software solution, the system optimizes test result workflow to help laboratories meet increasing demands, streamline decision-making, and reduce risk. The software is easy to implement, highly secure, and provides laboratorians with organized clinical data, standardized result interpretations, and auto-verification, as well as comprehensive reports for regulatory compliance. Caresphere WS is a HIPAA-compliant application hosted by Amazon Web Services, and the full implementation process is supported by Sysmex, from the initial build to go-live, and support continues with real-time monitoring, security updates, and unlimited training and technical assistance for the life of the solution. As part of the implementation, rules and configuration support enables process and resulting customization and standardization across multi-site laboratories and laboratory information systems.

Urinalysis Analyzer

The DxU Iris Workcell from Beckman Coulter is a fully automated urinalysis solution that aims to streamline workflow using updated technology and to reduce manual review to 4%. The analyzers’ load-and-go walkaway capability and Edit-Free Release technology minimize interruptions and operator intervention. The newly enhanced, intuitive user interface helps elevate the operator experience, and access to innovative software solutions enables remote service monitoring for improved laboratory system uptime. The DxU Iris Workcell pairs the DxU Microscopy Series with the AUTION MAX 4030 urine chemistry analyzer to create a scalable, automated urinalysis solution for the laboratory.

Handheld Glucose Analyzer

EKF Diagnostics introduces the STAT-Site WB dual analyte measurement system, a new handheld analyzer for reliable and efficient β-ketone and glucose measurement from whole blood in seconds. The system is designed for ease of use and is CLIA waived and CE marked in professional settings to monitor the effectiveness of diabetes control programs.

Other highlights from EKF include the Hemo Control, which provides near-patient hemoglobin and hematocrit results in one test in as few as 25 seconds, and the Lucica Glycated Albumin-L, a test for glycated albumin (GA) that is FDA cleared for sale in the US. The test enables intermediate term glycemic monitoring of diabetics over the preceding 2-3 weeks, and is a quantitative, enzymatic test for use on compatible clinical chemistry analyzers as a user defined method. The STAT-Site WB and Lucica Glycated Albumin-L test are part of a suite of diabetes care products that also includes the Beta-Hydroxybutyrate LiquiColor Assay (B-HB) and Nitro-Tab Ketone Tablets, both of which provide quick tests for ketosis.

Respiratory SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR Panel Assay

The PKamp Respiratory SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR Panel assay from PerkinElmer is a real-time RT-PCR multiplexed test intended for the simultaneous qualitative detection and differentiation of SARS-CoV-2, influenza A, influenza B, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV); simultaneous qualitative detection and differentiation of SARS-CoV-2, influenza A, and influenza B; or qualitative detection of SARS-CoV-2 only. PerkinElmer’s RT-PCR assays target two specific genomic regions of SARS-CoV-2: the nucleocapsid (N) gene and ORF1ab. Thus mutations in spike protein, as seen in the B.1.1.7 and B.1.351 lineages, do not impact the safety and effectiveness of these assays. Designed to provide efficient processing and automation flexibility, the assay can be coupled with modular, scalable extraction and liquid handling options for suitable processing of a broad range of samples every day (from hundreds to over 100,000).

Allergy and Autoimmune Instruments and Tests

Thermo Fisher’s Phadia instrument family comprises high-capacity, intuitive lab instruments that offer reliable, high throughput for both allergy and autoimmune testing. The instruments can serve laboratories with demands up to and exceeding 10,000 test results every week, maximizing productivity. Also featured from Thermo Fisher are the EliA SmDP-S test and the Alpha-Gal Allergen Component test. As a newly FDA approved test, the EliA SmDP-S is designed for aiding in the diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and aims to enhance specificity without sacrificing sensitivity, leading to a more precise diagnosis while reducing the number of false positives. Results from the Alpha-Gal allergen component test can aid in diagnosing a patient’s sensitization to the alpha-Gal carbohydrate found in mammalian (red) meat and assess the risk for an anaphylactic reaction.

PCR Instrument

Seegene showcases its automated PCR instrument, the STARlet-AIOS, an all-in-one solution for molecular testing. As a new modular concept, it enables a fully automated workflow while maintaining the standalone instruments—the STARlet IVD and the CFX96 Dx Real-time PCR system. The new instrument connects the two systems with the goal of ensuring efficiency, eliminating spillage that can occur during manual handling, and reducing sample contamination.

As a liquid handling workstation, the system processes samples from extracting nucleic acids to PCR setup. The system allows for the simultaneous PCR setup of up to four assays. The CFX96 Dx Real-time PCR system can detect 5 different fluorescent dyes simultaneously; thus, it is suitable for multi-pathogen detection in one clinical sample. A robotic arm has been designed to combine the two systems, which will facilitate multiplex testing with minimal human interaction. It does not require a large installation space and Seegene offers maintenance and repair services.
