Today’s microbiology programs rely on skilled technologists, but automated technology is continuing to make inroads in alleviating many manual processes. As infection control remains a necessity across the health care continuum, reliance upon dependable, accurate, and precise microbiology platforms will be a priority.

 


While the use of microbiology platforms dipped slightly this year, overall adoption rates remain strong at 62%.


Facilities of all sizes are making good use of microbiology platforms.


Led by bioMérieux, Cepheid, BD, and Beckman Coulter, most facilities utilize multiple microbiology platforms to accommodate their needs.

Nearly a quarter (24%) of facilities are planning to acquire new microbiology platforms, a slight dip compared to the last few years.


Those facilities planning to acquire new microbiology platforms have a broad time frame for acquisition.


Satisfaction with microbiology platforms continues to grow. This technology enjoys particularly strong ratings, with 9 out 10 facilities assigning top marks to their platforms.
