Refrigerators & Freezers

November 2021 - Vol.10 No. 10 - Page #50
Category: Refrigeration/Freezers

The number of laboratories using medical-grade refrigeration continues to grow given the efficiency and reliability of these units. As more clinical laboratories and blood banks forgo non-medical-grade refrigeration units in favor of purpose-built and integrated units, substantial benefits (including peace of mind) are realized. The integrity of refrigerated products is essential for effective QA and QC procedures, as well as regulatory and accreditation standards. Today’s devices are sophisticated and provide ample control over this sensitive practice area.

The percentage of facilities using medical-grade refrigerators and freezers exclusively remained steady this year, at just under half of all laboratories.

Other than a small downturn in 2018, the exclusive use of medical-grade refrigeration has risen over the last 5 years and did not curtail during the pandemic.

Helmer and Thermo Fisher enjoy substantial representation in medical laboratories, as this market remains busy with Cardinal Health, Follett, and others also well used.
