With the majority of laboratories doing 1 to 10% of their testing at the point of care, satisfaction rates for these systems remain high. Select larger facilities conduct higher volumes, and one-quarter of hospitals plan to expand their POCT programs this year. Fortunately, the marketplace offers a variety of choices for these facilities.


The majority of labs conducting POCT do so with 10% or less of their testing. The few that do report conducting 31% and more are larger facilities with more than 200 beds.


Nearly all users (98%) report satisfaction with their POCT systems.

Abbott, Nova Biomedical, and Roche lead the vendor systems in use for POCT.


To date, a quarter of all institutions are planning to expand their POCT operations.


Facilities of all sizes are looking to expand POCT capabilities, with the most consideration coming from the larger hospitals.

For labs projecting vendor changes and/or POCT expansion, several vendors are available to meet these needs. Abbott, Nova Biomedical, Roche, and Cepheid lead this category.
